Around half of homes in the UK built before the year 2000 contain asbestos. If these homes were built by a council or local authority that figures rises to 3 in 4 homes.
Once you are aware of the asbestos in your home and had professional advice, it can often be safely managed rather than removed. This is not the case for all asbestos and would depend on the type of asbestos, location and accessibility to materials.
Occupiers of a property are also an important factor when assessing the risks of leaving asbestos in place.
Asbestos that is not disturbed and kept in good condition, will not release asbestos fibres into the air and the risk to health is minimal.

There are over 3000 different asbestos materials, have a look at our video to see if you recognise any asbestos in your home.
Asbestos in Commercial & Industrial Premises
If the building you work in, own or manage was built before the year 2000, there is a chance that it could contain asbestos.
